Two days after its official closing, the Split Film Festival hosted a special finale: the premiere of its new Rural program. Held on Thursday, September 18th at a farm in Brštanovo, approximately thirty kilometers from Split, this unique event was organized in collaboration with Farm House OPG.
The new Rural program is dedicated to films that focus on sustainable agriculture, farming, ecology, and rural life. This year’s screening took place in a unique outdoor cinema setting under the stars, surrounded by domestic animals and local produce.
The audience enjoyed the Croatian premiere of the 2024 film, The Smell of Burnt Milk by director Justine Bauer. The film presents a touching story about three generations of female farmers on German farms facing the threat of closure.
Despite infrastructural limits, the intimate event was at full capacity with forty guests. The screening was followed by a social gathering indoors, featuring local wine and snacks from local producers.
The Rural program proved to be a refreshing addition to the festival, attracting both locals and visitors from Split for a unique cultural experience in the Dalmatian countryside. Organizers are already planning the next edition at a new location.
The Split Film Festival has now concluded its rich eight-day program. The team now begins a year of planning before presenting new film stories.
