A butcher and a butchery, both look perfectly normal. The delivery arrives in the morning, the butcher prepares the meat as it should be. Not many clients though. It’s more like his fantasy world, his asylum, here he can live out his sexual fantasies, here he can play out his dark side and forget about the miserable life he has. There is Roxy, the young girl in the butchery. She’s videoing everything as part of her search for answers, her limits, her life. And the butcher gets into her head, she gets into his. There is the inspector. A man with a miserable life at a point where he doesn’t want to prove or improve anything anymore. Not much different than the butcher. A bit bigger, but they’re sharing the same face. Then the inspector, investigating the mysterious death of the butcher after it happened or maybe while it happens, gets involved with Roxy. It seems that there is only one solution for the puzzle: recreate the death of the butcher.
Maartje Seyferth, Victor Nieuwenhuijs
Victor Nieuwenhuijs studied Politics at the University of Amsterdam, then painting and photography at the Ateliers ’63 and film at the Free Academy in The Hague with Dutch experimental filmmaker Frans Zwartjes. Maartje Seyferth studied acting and directing at the Theaterschools of Antwerp and Amsterdam. She played in avant-garde, trendsetting plays, then she studied painting at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.
In 1986 Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth decided to co-operate as filmmakers and founded MOSKITO FILM to produce their films (www.moskitofilm.com). Their films are now part of the collection of the Dutch Film Museum. In 2008 they founded Plexus Film Productions in Rotterdam. Plexus co-produced “Crepuscule” in 2009 and “Meat” in 2010. Both films premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
