SWELTER -Krišs Salmanis

An idyllic Latvian country scene, so wonted that one is immediately bored. Thus the tree passes unnoticed. Originally conceived and shown as a video installation, “Swelter” has been adapted for screening purposes.

Krišs Salmanis

Born in Riga, and still lives and works there. His formal education includes establishments as diverse as an English public school, a christian academy, the Art Academy of Latvia and Media Art Academy in Cologne. He takes part in exhibitions on a regular basis both in Latvia and abroad and has had a number of solo shows. He has gained awards in the 13th Tallinn Print Triennial (Estonia) in 2004, 2nd International Competition for the work of art of the External Gallery of the City of Gdansk (Poland) in 2007, Waterpieces 2008 in Riga (Latvia) and other events. His works are in the collections of the Art Museum of Estonia, Latvian National Museum of Art, Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art and the Central and Eastern Europe video art archive Transitland.
