A film about what was before… She: ”In the history of mankind, I found what I found in the room of my childhood, in the house of my youth, and in the window of the cave of my adulthood. Man invented the mirror, but he only polishes the carnassial teeth in front of it.
I’ll stop it. It’s not right, it’s wrong. Everything is wrong. but so what. I fall asleep for a while – and when I wake up, everything is different.”
Mox Mäkelä
Mox Mäkelä’s art work is profuse and mycelial. She turn elements over again and again in new constructions and combinations.
But what’s special about Mäkelä’s art is that she has spent consistently exploring homo sapiens and eco-critical themes, phenomena–ownership, the degeneration beneath the surface of civilization, environmental destruction but despite the serious topics, there is usually also heavy sweet satire and parody involved.
Another special thing about his art is that his life is intertwined with his works and his works with his life. He is a recluse in his own time and ”persona non grata” in the cultural field of his own country.
