Between the 1970s and the 1990s, the government of the Federal Republic of Germany produced a series of educational films designed to present a wide range of professions in meticulous detail. In OVERWORK, Céline Berger breathes new life into this archival material.
Céline Berger
Céline Berger is a French interdisciplinary artist based in Germany. Before turning to art, she spent over a decade (1997–2008) working as a production engineer in microelectronics. She subsequently graduated from the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne in 2012 and was a resident at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam from 2012 to 2013.
Often working embedded within non-artistic professional environments, her work explores “unspectacular” everyday narratives, the small and often overlooked stories of our working lives, and questions the very notion of productive labor.
