Ivan Martinac (1938–2005) was an architect, filmmaker, and poet from Split. After studying in Zagreb and Belgrade, he made 71 short films and one feature film, A House on the Sand. He led the Split Cinema Club, initiated the Split School of Film and founded the Cinematheque. He was awarded the title of Master of Amateur Film. He published nine collections of poetry and was also active in design, photography, and chess. Despite receiving international recognition, his work remained insufficiently appreciated in Croatia, although he is regarded as an important chronicler of both the city of Split and its cinematic culture.
