Misfolding – Soetkin Verstegen

Misfolding means ‘to fold into an incorrect three-dimensional shape that is typically nonfunctional’. These animations are based on pencil drawings I made just before going to sleep. As I dozed off, with them hanging around my bed, the sheets seemed to swallow me.

Soetkin Verstegen

Soetkin Verstegen is an independent filmmaker and animator from Belgium. Previously she made Mr Sand (2016), Freeze frame (2019) and Beautiful figures (2023). Her films have won jury awards at Clermont-Ferrand, Ann Arbor, Annecy, Fantoche and Animafest Zagreb. She was a fellow at Yaddo, MacDowell, Akademie Schloss Solitude and Artist Residency Schloss Balmoral. In addition to her personal work, she is a guest professor at LUCA School of Arts, Brussels.
