An important inspiration for this work was Andrej Takovski and his concept of sealed time. His understanding of film as a possibility to preserve time within an image strongly influenced the form and expression of Leroy. For me, time here is not a straight line. It returns through image, sound, dream, and memory, connecting different moments and spaces of my life. That is why Leroy is not merely a record of a time of war. It is my inner space, my memory, and my need to reestablish, through art, a connection with the city I left, but which never left me. Leroy is my sealed time – Šibenik, which I carry with me, regardless of space, distance, and the years that have passed.
Ivo Deković
Croatian visual artist (Šibenik, May 14, 1952). Studied at the Academy in Düsseldorf under N. J. Paik. Since 1984, professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Aachen. The main themes of his artistic work are ships, the sea, and the underwater world, which he wittily interprets in sculpture, video objects, and installations (Movar, 1993). In 1996, he launched the project Sub Art (the creation of artworks under the sea) in Croatia.
