ASSEMBLY LINE is a video in which the only visible image is the screen of an X-ray device. l invited twenty-five Chinese students living abroad to expose their chosen personal objects to X-ray scanning: amulets, rings, sex toys, pet remains, cameras, and collectible objects. Through X-ray imaging, these objects are stripped of their surface appearance, leaving only structure and density. Under X-ray vision, even our bodies are reduced to indistinguishable skeletal forms, as if we all share the same condition. In everyday contexts, X-ray technology is used for surveillance and risk detection, often requiring the removal of unstable elements. Here, however, 1 focus on what escapes the logic of security: the friction between body and object, producing ambiguity, intimacy, and affect.
