Following yesterday’s opening of the Media Art Competition at Salon Galić, the film programme of the 31st Split Film Festival begins today.
Presented in collaboration with HULU Split, the exhibition brings media art back into the festival’s competition programme after twenty years. Salon Galić features works by Urška Preis, Eric del Castillo, Angela Bedekovic, Matthias Grunsky, Jenna Caravello and Huang Jianming. The exhibition will remain open throughout the festival, from September 11 to 18, and will continue after the festival until September 24.
Today, the festival’s film programme officially opens at 8:30 PM at Kino Karaman with a screening of Az Zeeb by Chilean filmmaker Rafael Guendelman. Rafael, a Chilean of Jewish and Palestinian heritage, discovers several Super 8 film reels following the death of his paternal grandmother. The discovery takes him from Chile to Israel and Palestine, where he brings together two intertwined stories shaped by exile, memory and resistance. The film opens this year’s feature film competition, which presents eight titles, including three world premieres and one European premiere.
The film programme continues until September 18, with a total of 59 films from 27 countries, alongside feature and short film competitions, the media art programme, retrospectives, experimental and Croatian cinema, as well as a range of accompanying programmes, lectures and workshops.
Tickets for screenings at Kino Karaman are available online via the festival website or at the cinema box office 30 minutes before each screening. Entrance to all other programmes is free.
