Based on the decision of the Split Municipality Culture Fund, the production company “Slavica Film” was founded on 28th June 1974. In the spring of 1980 it changed name into “Marjan Film”, marking the beginning of the ‘golden age’ in feature film production. Stylistic and thematic diversity was accompanied by readiness to cooperate with a number of film companies in the region, as Split, already established as an acknowledged centre for short film, ‘threatened’ to become an attractive destination for feature film projects by authors in need of producer’s understanding for “other stories”, removed from the still existing cinematographic hubs. In the beginning of the 1990s the company was divided into “Marjan Film”, “Dalmacija film &video” and “Mediteran Film”. The famous name “Marjan Film” continued to exist for several more years without major activities, reduced to a note in the commercial court registry, and finally ceased to exist in the end of the 1990s.Unfortunately, the ‘threat’ of the Split film production was postponed for another time, which may have already come, as we come across low-budget productions and different forms of electronic recordings…
