INFORMATION OF DECAY -Manuel Knapp / Tim Blechmann

This is a visual and acoustic examination of the aesthetic potentialities of interim noise within deconstructed and distorted interiors. Noise serves at the same time as a medium for transporting information and communication between the visual and acoustic levels. Its modulations have been randomized, resulting in various kinds of extreme disturbance and interference. The audio synthesis is based on non-linear systems of mathematical equations, and the acoustic signals are structured by means of generative algorithms that change constantly throughout the animation. Thus, while the acoustic level is generative, the visual level is designed to be non-generative. Despite the signal’s intentional autonomy, information of decay~ directs the viewer’s attention at the creation of the contingent aesthetic couplings and interference that are, ultimately, impossible to plan or program.

Manuel Knapp
Born in 1978 in Carnithia/Austria. From 1997-2002 he studied painting and graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 2003 he started studying computer sound and electro-acoustic media at the Institute for Electroacoustics in Vienna.
In 2007 he co organized velakgala at Konzerthaus Vienna; member of V:ELAK association for electro-acoustic music, participated in various concerts and exhibitions.

Tim Blechmann
Born 1981 in Bielefeld, Germany. Since 2005 he lives and works in Vienna. In
2001 Tim graduated from gymnasium Gerlingen, awarded for mathematical-scientific results. 2002-2004: studies of physics & computer sciences, universities of Tübingen and Stuttgart. 2005-2008: studies of electroacoustic music at the Institute for computer based music and electronic media with Wolfgang Musil. Since 2005: studies of computer sciences at the Vienna University of Technology. Since 2007: studies of digital arts at the University of Applied Arts.
