OPEN CALL – New Media Programme

OPEN CALL – New Media Programme

March 2, 2026

Split Film Festival – International Festival of New Film

The New Media Programme is one of the key identity segments of Split Film Festival – International Festival of New Film that has, since 1996, continuously championed experimental, avant-garde and hybrid audiovisual practices.

This year the festival relaunches the competitive New Media Programme after twenty years, reinstating it as an independent competition section. In doing so, the festival reconnects with a programme whose history has been marked by significant figures in contemporary media art, including the pioneer of video art, Nam June Paik.

The call is open to all forms of contemporary media practice – video and multimedia installations, audiovisual performances, intermedia and hybrid works, digital and analogue experiments, interactive projects, and other artistic formats engaging moving image and new technologies.

The competitive programme will take place in September, during the festival, at Salon Galić in Split, re-establishing a dialogue between the moving image and the gallery context and expanding the festival beyond the cinema space.

The call is open to both national and international artists. Applications must be submitted via FilmFreeway by 15 June. The selection results will be announced no later than 15 July 2026.

Terms and conditions:

  • Applicants may submit up to three works produced from January 2025 onwards.
  • All submitted works must be technically completed, equipped, and ready for exhibition in a gallery setting.
  • The organiser does not assume responsibility for the production of artworks but will provide basic technical equipment necessary for presentation in the gallery.
  • For works requiring complex or highly specific technical equipment, the organiser cannot guarantee additional provisions beyond the standard technical capacities of the venue.
  • Incomplete submissions and submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
  • By submitting an application, artists confirm that they agree to all stated terms and conditions.
