Fifty years on, cinema operator Dragutin Rošin (84) recalls an incident that was not the only case of poisoning in the building. Just a few months earlier, several members of the local amateur fire brigade theatre group had also fallen ill… Were the two incidents conflated by the media, and what truly happened?
This documentary, a collage of archival footage, photographs, and newsreels, reveals that it is impossible to tell fact from myth in the case. Yet it offers an anecdotal glimpse of a time when cinema held more sway than television, when screenings hinged on whether the projectionist showed up or “distracted himself” at the pub, and whether he might intentionally, or accidentally, skip a reel…

Arsen Oremović

Born in 1966 in Derventa. He holds an MFA degree in Film and TV Directing (ADU Zagreb) and a degree in Communications. From 1991 to 2016, he worked as a journalist, columnist, and editor at Večernji list. In recent years, he has focused primarily on film and TV directing and is a member of the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild and the Croatian Freelance Artists Association.
