Last night, the film programme of the 31st Split Film Festival officially opened at Kino Karaman. The festival’s first film gathering drew many visitors who came to see the opening title of this year’s programme and mark the official beginning of the festival.
The film programme opened with Az Zeeb by Chilean filmmaker Rafael Guendelman, a film that uses found Super 8 footage to connect a personal story with themes of exile, memory and family heritage. Last night’s opening also marked the first encounter with the festival’s main film venue, which will host the feature and short film competitions until September 18, while the rest of the programme takes place simultaneously at other locations across the city.
Today, Sunday, September 13, the festival continues at Kino Karaman, Kinoteka Zlatna vrata and Salon Galić. At Kino Karaman, two films from the feature film competition are on tonight’s programme. Where the Sun Shines Bright will be screened at 7 PM, followed by Glorious Summer at 9 PM. At Kinoteka Zlatna vrata, the Aleksandar Stasenko retrospective begins at 6:30 PM, presented in collaboration with the Croatian State Archives. At 8:30 PM, the Croatian feature film Među nama by young filmmaker Laura Pascu will be screened. Salon Galić continues with the Media Art Competition programme. The exhibition is open from 10 AM to 1 PM and again from 5 PM to 9 PM, while a photography and film workshop for children begins at 1 PM.
Following last night’s opening, the festival enters its first full day of programming, bringing together cinema, media art and workshops across several locations in the centre of Split.
